Obama’s Last Major Speech as President at the DNC

As President Barack Obama prepares to leave office, he passes his hopes for the future on to Hillary Clinton’s campaign at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. This will likely be the last major speech he gives before he leaves his office and his legacy to Hillary.

Obama’s Speech

  • In his speech, Obama says, “There has never been a man or woman, not me, not Bill, more qualified than Hillary Clinton.”
  • Donald Trump is a threat to Obama’s legacy, and referred to him as a “home-grown demagogue.”
  • In rejection of Trump he said, “We do not look to be ruled….He is offering slogans and fear. He is betting that if he scares enough people, he might win just enough votes to win this election, and that’s another bet that Donald Trump will lose.”
  • Obama’s message about Hillary is that she understands American values and she is the right person to uphold them. He said, “We don’t fear the future; we shape it. We embrace it, as one people, stronger together than we are on our own. That’s what Hillary Clinton understands – this fighter, this stateswoman, this mother and grandmother, this public servant, this patriot – that’s the America she’s fighting for.”

America may be under threat by Trump if he wins, but Obama’s legacy of climate change, marriage equality, and Obamacare will be safe in Hillary’s hands next. Clinton’s VP Tim Caine made an attempt to connect with Republicans who don’t agree with Trump, saying that, “If any of you are looking for the party of Lincoln, we got a home for you here.”
